how long can someone live with bullet fragments in brain?

my friend was shot three months ago, he went into about three coma’s, fever’s, now is in a convalescents home with no response except eye’s wide open no blinking or movements of eye’s.
he was shot in the neck, the bullet went threw the neck into the left side of brain, bullet fragments went all over brain..
he’s in his 20’s he looks like a thin little kid now, teak in neck, feeding tubes, and he seems to breath on his own a lot of times..
Thanks for the responses, I feel his brain is long gone as well.. everyone has hope for him, but it doesn’t look good.
his teak has loads of yellow stuff coming out of it.
he’s off of life support, but he is going to be place on a different teak soon to see if he can breath on his own.
I feel the shooter’s will never be caught. and if someone’s in a convalescents home isn’t that the last hope? do you feel his mom should take him home to die?

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. Sad to say, most people with brain damage that extensive don’t live more than a year or two, often less, despite life support measures by those who continue to hope for a miracle.

My mother-in-law had extensive brain damage from a series of strokes and was minimally responsive, but the nurses assured us that even severely brain-damaged people still responded to a kind touch. When you visit, talk about whatever you like, and touch his hand, his arm, or his face often. Play music for him, since that evokes a deep-brain response for some people.

And remember that he didn’t choose to be the thin, sick kid he looks like. Fate did.
